to the George C. Pimentel website.
After a slow start two years ago, we are now working on additions
to the site, and your suggestions are welcome.
years after his death, George's spirit and influence are still with us, in
chemistry and in the world at large, and we still receive queries about
his work and his life. To
learn more about him, or to remember him as an old friend, please browse
these pages. We particularly
welcome his students and research collaborators, and urge you to keep in
touch with us and with each other.
research still affects today's discoveries in chemistry, and his students
still remember him with affection and gratitude.
There's a building named for him on the Berkeley campus, and
several awards and events in his honor: the American Chemical Society's
Award in Chemical Education; the IBM-sponsored annual lecture, and the George
C. Pimentel Award for a graduating senior at UC Berkeley.
This award is given annually at the College of Chemistry
commencement ceremony. George
gave the commencement address there in 1988.
on this site are a brief summary of his life, one account of his
continuing influence (even in space), and a list of his graduate students
and other research collaborators at Berkeley (currently being revised). Many more items are planned - from his scientific
bibliography to his (unpublished) short stories; from the CHEM Study story
to his advice to Congress. And
lots more photos. We welcome
comments and contributions. Thanks
(Mrs. George C. Pimentel)
